Diageo releases Game of Thrones Scotch whisky collection as season 8 launches

Diageo has released its Westerosi range of whiskies based on HBO’s Game of Thrones, as the full trailer for season 8 goes live.

The release of the limited edition White Walker and single malt collection comes ahead of the start of the show’s eighth and final season, the trailer for which went live on 5 March. They can be pre-ordered from Amazon in select European countries, and through www.malts.com. The range was first released on 19 February.

“We knew there was fan appetite for a Game of Thrones whisky and once we saw the vision from Johnnie Walker for a way to collaborate we knew the idea was perfect and the time was now,” Jeff Peters, vice president, licensing & retail at HBO, said when the news was first announced last October. “From the beginning, they understood that we wanted to create something special, and they’ve accomplished that with White Walker by Johnnie Walker.”

White Walker, named after the White Walker characters in the show, is intended to be being served directly from the freezer, and was created by whisky specialist George Harper alongside the small team of expert blenders at Johnnie Walker, with single malts from Cardhu and Clynelish both featuring in the blend.

Using temperature-sensitive ink technology, a graphic reading “Winter is Here” is revealed on reveal on the bottle when frozen.

“Whiskies from Clynelish have endured long, Scottish winters, not dissimilar to the long periods endured by the Night’s Watch who have ventured north of the wall – so it was the perfect place to start when creating this unique whisky,” said George Harper, blender and whisky specialist.

In addition to White Walker, Diageo has also launched a Game of Thrones Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection, featuring eight Scotch whiskies paired with one of the Houses of Westeros, as well as the “Night’s Watch”.

The whiskies featured in the collection are as follows:-

  • Game of Thrones House Tully – Singleton of Glendullan Select; Around $30 for 750ml; ABV 40%
  • Game of Thrones House Stark – Dalwhinnie Winter’s Frost; Around $40 for 750ml; ABV 43%
  • Game of Thrones House Targaryen – Cardhu Gold Reserve; Around $40 for 750ml; ABV 40%
  • Game of Thrones House Lannister – Lagavulin 9 Year Old; Around $65 for 750ml; ABV 46%
  • Game of Thrones House Greyjoy – Talisker Select Reserve; Around $45 for 750ml; ABV 45.8%
  • Game of Thrones House Baratheon – Royal Lochnagar 12 Year Old; Around $65 for 750ml; ABV 40%
  • Game of Thrones House Tyrell – Clynelish Reserve; Around $60 for 750ml; ABV 51.2%

This has been a most frustrating search. I live in Oklahoma and have four of the 8 bottles. No where near Oklahoma are the other four. Can anyone tell me where they can be found, purchased and shipped? I have an address in New York City they can be shipped to also.

    Clynelish for House Tyrell.

    Royal Lochnagar for House Baratheon,

    Talisker for House Greyjoy

    Oban for The Night’s Watch

    This very insightful

  17. Toby deB says:

Whilst the auctions are selling these at a relatively high premium, in the UK they are available today on Amazon.co.uk, except the Oban and Clynelish, which are on pre-order. Other UK retailers seem to have very limited stocks at present.

  18. Alan Dunning says:

I’ve 3 bottles that could be for sale

  19. Jessica says:

A few people are asking when this will be available in Australia. It will be later this month. However stock in the country will be VERY limited. Ask your local Bottle shop if they are able to get any sets in. However best bet to find them online i suggest somewhere like Nicks Wine Merchants online. retail will be between $900-$1050.

  20. Sven Nordgaard says:

As this should be a limited edtition, do anyone know how many sets of 8 bottlers are/have been released?

    1. Sven Nordgaard says:

Nobody else wonders why we can’t be told the limited number of released sets of 8 bottles or how many of each bottle been released. Anyone who can through some light over this issue ?

  21. Donnai says:

And now, after supposedly being completely sold out since Jan of 2019, they are everywhere again and in larger quantity than last year. Such a scam….
