Christie’s to offer Latour winemaker’s collection in London

Auction house Christie’s is to offer a “spectacular” collection of Château Latour from the collection of the first growth’s former winemaker Denis Malbec in London next month.

Taking place from 28-29 November in what will be its largest sale of the year, Christie’s is set to offer not only the Latour which spans 1863 to 2009 and includes the extremely rare Grapillons de Latour and rosé, but also ex-cellar Champagnes from Lanson and numerous other fine wines and whiskies.

The Latour collection features the full gamut of wines from the Pauillac property in bottles and various large formats. The Malbec family has a long association with Latour and the wines have been kept in the family cellar very close to the estate and recorked and reconditioned throughout their lives when necessary.

The Lanson to be offered includes a collection of vintages from 1976 to 1999, Clos Lanson 2006 and the 2002 Noble Cuvée Brut and Blanc de Blancs.

Meanwhile, a large chunk of the sale will be dedicated to an “exceptional” array of fine wines from a single owner consignment that includes Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Le Pin, Dom Pérignon, Cristal and Gaja.

The same sale will also feature the largest collection of whiskies and Cognacs Christie’s has ever offered, including a bottle of 1926 The Macallan which may be the first bottle to break £1 million as previously reported by the drinks business.
