Overhex Wines collaborates with South African band Spoegwolf
Overhex Wines has collaborated with South African band Spoegwolf to help promote the launch of Mensa, its new South African wine brand and the country’s “first” to have an accompanying augmented reality app.
Calling itself the “ultimate book club wine” Mensa has the tag-line ‘live a great story’ with each of the range’s three wines boasting a scannable label that comes to life to tell its story.
The Mensa range comprises three wines “for everyday enjoyment”: a Sauvignon Blanc, a white Chardonnay and Pinot Noir blend, and a Cabernet Sauvignon. The whites retail for R75 (£3.83) and the red for R85 (£4.34).
It also has a Chenin and Pinot Grigio blend and a Shiraz and Malbec blend for export only.
Explaining the decision to collaborate with Spoegwolf, Overhex said: “As part of our promotion of the Mensa range, we commissioned an authentic and popular local band, Spoegwolf, to feature in our short video. The intention of the video was to get across the message that Mensa is all about living a great story, and we wanted the video to be truly South African, which is important for us a business as we are a proudly South African company.
“Spoegwolf will also perform at our concert at the winery in January, so it was a good fit”.
In the video to promote the launch, the whole band is featured (Chris von Wielligh on guitar and vocals; Danie du Toit on vocals; Albert van der Merwe on bass, and Moscow du Toit on drums and vocals), along with head winemaker for Overhex Ben Snyman.
