Aldi to sell six-litre bottle of Prosecco for £80

UK supermarket Aldi has announced plans to sell a six-litre Methuselah of Prosecco for Christmas at £80 a bottle.

Aldi’s Giotti Spumante Prosecco Methuselah won’t fit in a standard fridge, so the budget supermarket recommends you store it outside or in a garage to keep it cold.

The super-size bottle contains the equivalent of 64 glasses of fizz, or eight regular bottles, and will set you back £79.99, which works out at £9.99 a bottle.

According to the retailer, a glass of this Prosecco contains just 58 calories per glass, compared with standard Prosecco which contains around 80. The fizz itself is described as having a “sweet, almost creamy, mouthfeel with flavours of lemon zest, tangerine and pear”.

The giant bottle goes on sale on November 14, and will be available online only via Aldi’s website, with free delivery.

Aldi is also selling a three-litre jeroboam for £39.99, which holds four regular bottles, and will also be available from 14 November.

Completing its large-format line-up, Aldi will also be selling a 1.5 litre magnum of 2017 Ca’di Pietra Prosecco DOC from 1 October, for £13.99.

  1. And then the consortium blame Brexit for the sales going down? I think their board should go revise marketing https://www.italyabroad.com/blog/prosecco-sales-have-gone-down
