Ken Grier, the outgoing creative director of Macallan, chose Asia as the last leg of his official tour before retiring next month. The market has grown to be Macallan’s biggest export market over the years, now representing about 40% of its production by volume.
Macallan has unveiled its seventh edition of its award-winning ‘Masters of Photography’ series entitled ‘The Macallan Masters of Photography: Magnum Edition’ in Hong Kong, a collaboration between the distillery and six renowned photographers from Magnum to capture the creation of Macallan’s new distillery. Presented in an archive style gift box, each set comes with a special limited release whisky, a selection of six signed prints, one from each photographer, and an exclusive photography book. Only 2,000 editions were created worldwide, and each sells for HK$26,460.
Sue Hodder, winemaker at Australia’s Wynns Coonawarra Estate (centre), was in Hong Kong to unveil the latest release of from the estate, including a Riesling and two of its Icon reds – 2015 ‘John Riddoch’ Cabernet Sauvignon and ‘Michael’ Shiraz. First made in 1982, ‘John Riddoch’ is considered an iconic Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon, while the ‘Michael’ Shiraz is a tribute to winery founder David Wynns’ son. Both are produced in small quantities and only in exceptional vintages.
Macallan’s creative director Ken Grier guides guests through each of the six photographers’ photo collection featuring its new distillery in Speyside, Scotland. The keen scotch enthusiast is also an avid photographer himself.
Pici’s latest pasta bar has opened its doors on Hart Avenue in Tsim Sha Tsui. Pirata Group’s third Pici location, following in the footsteps of Pici restaurants in Wan Chai and Central, brings its signature pasta dishes as well as a collection of dishes exclusive to Tsim Sha Tsui including seafood salad, Fagottini with duck, sliced leek, greens and parmesan cheese, and Ravioli filled with egg yolk and sautéed with ricotta, porcini and shimeji mushrooms. There’s also a gluten-free menu.
