Suicidal man saved by beer

A man who was attempting to end his life by jumping off a bridge in Minnesota was prevented from doing so by two beer delivery men employed by Breakthru Beverage, after being persuaded to share a beer.

As reported by Pioneer Press, beer salesman Kwame Anderson and driver Jason Gaebel were driving over Interstate 94 when they spotted a man clinging to the outer fence of a bridge on Wednesday morning (15 August).

Anderson, a comedian and beer salesman and who was later joined by police, spent an hour talking to the man before offering him a case of beer.

He said: “If you come down from there, do you want to get a drink with me and talk about what’s going on? I have a pack of Coors Light for you. Follow me”.

Eventually persuaded, the man was able to inch his way across the bridge to safety, but didn’t end up receiving his Coors Light as he was immediately treated by paramedics.

Anderson, who said he was inspired by Denzel Washington’s role in Inside Man, said he felt he needed to build up a rapport with the man.

Sergeant Mike Ernster of St Paul Police praised Anderson’s initiative, telling Pioneer Press: “Beer has been bringing people together for a long, long time. Today, it brought people together in a life-saving way”.
