The first release in Salcombe Gin’s voyager series, the expression has been named ‘Arabella’ in honour of the Salcombe fruit schooners of yore.
The brand intends to add to the series with additional limited run gins made in collaboration with famous chefs and winemakers that reflect their character.
Having held two Michelin stars for 18 years at Gidleigh Park hotel in Devon, Caines worked with the team at Salcombe Gin to create a gin with a strong junpier backbone featuring botanicals like English coriander seed, citrus peel, almond, green cardamom, lemon thyme, verbena and hibiscus.
“I chose to work with Salcombe Gin because they produce gins of exceptional quality make with local regional produce and share an understanding of how to layer complex flavours and aromas,” Caines said.
“The stand out flavours of citrus complimented with the fresh savoury notes of lemon thyme make the gin an ideal apéritif and partner for modern European cuisine,” he added,
“We have been privileged to work with Michael and his team at Lympstone Manor on our first voyager series release.
“Michael shares our desire to take people’s senses on a journey and this exceptional gin does just that”, said Salcombe Gin’s co-founder, Angus Lugsdin.
Limited to 1,200 bottles, ‘Arabella’ is priced at £65 a bottle and comes housed in a white ceramic bottle with a copper stopper.
Salcombe Gin was launched in 2016 by sailing instructor friends Angus Lugsdin and Howard Davies, and is made at a waterside distillery on Island Street in Salcombe.
Known for his seasonal modern European cuisine, Michael Caines MBE is chef patron at the recently Michelin-starred Lympstone Manor in Exmouth.
He received an MBE for services to the hospitality industry in 2006.
