Wineries for Climate Protection (WfCP)* is the first, and only, specific certification for environmental sustainability created for the wine sector.
The Gonzalez Byass-owned winery was recognised for its consistent implementation of sustainable practices by the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV) this week.
In order to gain the certificate for Wineries for Climate Protection Vilarnau had to go through an external audit process carried out by Lloyd’s Register, one of the certification bodies authorised by the FEV
Vilarnau was awarded the Wineries for Climate Protection certificate after implementing a comprehensive sustainability framework for the estate designed to reduce waste and cut pollution.
The comprehensive plan, devised by the team at Vilarnau, included such measures as the installation of a biomass boiler, and reducing fossil fuel consumption by around 25,000l of diesel per year.
