Singapore’s Cé La Vi hires Mathias Camilleri MS
Cé La Vi Singapore has appointed Mathias Camilleri, the first Master Sommelier in Singapore, to oversee its wine lists, the group, known for its rooftop bars, has announced.
Named Moët & Chandon UK Sommelier of the Year 2017, Camilleri was one of only five to receive the prestigious Master Sommelier title in October 2017, currently given to less than 250 people globally.
Born to a French father and a Singaporean mother, Camilleri eventually moved back to Singapore after honing his skills in the UK.
“At Cé La Vi, I’m looking forward to creating an eclectic and versatile wine list that complements and elevates the philosophy of Cé La Vi,” says Camilleri.
Having worked in several renowned restaurants, Camilleri first began his sommelier career in Paris where he graduated from the Lycée Albert de Mun with a Mention Complémentaire Sommellerie.
In 2012, he was appointed as the commis sommelier at The Vineyard at Stockcross, Newbury, where he worked with Master Sommelier Yohann Jousselin, who now oversees wine programmes at Island Shangri-la Hotel in Hong Kong.
In 2013, he joined the sommelier team at Medlar restaurant in Chelsea, London for three years, where he was mentored by Master Sommelier Clement Robert, the current general manager of the 28-50 Wine Workshop & Kitchen in London.
Camilleri was later appointed head sommelier at The Five Fields restaurant in Chelsea, which was awarded its first Michelin star in 2016.
