Couple mow Champagne bottle into lawn to celebrate lotto win
A couple have celebrated a £3 million scratchcard win by spending three days mowing the pattern of a Champagne bottle popping into two flutes into their lawn.
As reported by the BBC, Sue Richards, 51, and Barry Maddox, 58, from Essex, spent three days mowing the elaborate design into their lawn in Billericay to celebrate their £3m scratchcard wine.
The couple bought the “dream home” after winning the money, spending a third of their winnings on the luxury pad and using the rest to treat the five children they have between them.
The masterpiece took three days and the help of a mystery helper referred to only as “Mr Lawn”, who used a “range of scissors” to precisely cut the lawn, while also using a conventional mower.
The couple are known for their lawn designs, having previously mowed Wimbledon stripes into their lawn, as well as checker boards.
Richards bought the winning scratchcard as she returned from a night shift as a care worker, a job that she still holds, while Maddox now works as a kitchen designer.
“The neighbours must think we are mad but I’ve always taken a lot of pride in my garden and this has been really fun to do too,” he said.
“Who knows, maybe we’ve created a trend for the summer – lawn-Moeting.”
