Windsor & Eton brewery gets royal warrant
By Edith HancockWindsor & Eton brewery has been granted a royal warrant after the craft beer producer has made a series of serves dedicated to royal weddings.
The new warrant means the brewer is able to display a Royal Coat of Arms on all of its products.
To become a Royal Warrant Holder a business must have supplied goods or services to a Royal Household for at least five years.
Will Calvert, Windsor & Eton’s director, said that becoming a recognised supplier to the Royal household is “a real privilege.
“With this award comes responsibility – and we’ll never forget how we serve Windsor & Eton, and that we’re only ever as good as the quality of our last pint of beer and how we treated our last customer.”
Last month, Windsor & Eton Brewery unveiled a limited-edition Royal Wedding beer as pubs and bars across England and Wales are given permission to extend opening hours to 1am over the upcoming wedding weekend in May.
“Harry & Megan’s Windsor Knot”, special version of the brewery’s Windsor Knot which was first brewed to celebrate the marriage of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, went on sale on 28 March.
The beer uses a special blend of British hops called Invicta, intended as a reference to Prince Harry’s role in creating the Invictus Games, combined with some great American West Coast hops.
“As with all our beers, we use barley grown locally on the Royal Farms right here in Windsor and as a finishing touch we are using Champagne yeast,” master brewer and co-founder of Windsor & Eton, Paddy Johnson said at the time.
“Marrying these ingredients creates a new Pale Ale that is young, fresh and full of character.”
The news comes after a number of drinks firms have been issued with royal warrants in the run-up to Harry & Meghan’s nuptials on 19 May.
Cornwall winery Camel Valley became the UK’s first winery to receive a royal warrant in March this year, joining the ranks of several famous drinks brands whose bottles bear the Royal coat of arms such as Martini Vermouth, Champagne Bollinger, Pol Roger, Pimm’s and Hine Cognac.
