Goose Island offers free bike and trip to Chicago to future brewmaster of first UK brewpub
US craft beer brand Goose Island is on the hunt for a new brewer to run operations at its first London brewpub opening later this year.
Goose Island, which was snapped up by AB InBev in 2011, is hiring a brewmaster to become “part of the Goose Island family”, according to the job listing on Linkedin, with a range of perks ranging from a monthly beer allowance to a month-long trip to the brewery’s headquarters in Chicago.
The drinks maker is even giving away a Goose Island branded single-speed bicycle to the successful candidate.
When it comes to free booze, the prospective brewer will receive a monthly beer allowance alongside a cooler box that will be topped up monthly, and up to 20 free pints each month.
The London brewpub will be the brand’s first production venture into Europe following openings across the USA, China, Mexico, Korea and Brazil.
Ken Stout, president of Goose Island Beer Co. International, said: “We’ve been on an incredible journey here in the UK and are looking forward to this next chapter. We want to continue to share and contribute to the incomparable beer culture in the UK. The new Goose Island Brewpub will give beer lovers a chance to enjoy our established range of beers, as well as small batch specialties brewed on site by our very first UK Brewmaster.”
Goose Island first arrived in the UK in 2016 when it opened its first bar in Balham, south London. The next venture, set to open in late Summer 2018, will offer beer from the brewery’s established range including English style ales, barrel aged stouts, dry hopped IPAs, sours and lagers, while the new brewmaster will lead a team creating bespoke, one-off and seasonal drinks on-site.
The Goose Island business was bought by Ab InBev in 2011 for a reported $38 million (£27 million), and since 2014 it has been part of AB InBev’s US subsidiary Anheuser-Busch’s craft portfolio, the High End. Other brands in the craft segment include Blue Point, 10 Barrel, Elysian, Golden Road, Virtue Cider, Four Peaks, Breckenridge Brewery, Devils Backbone, SpikedSeltzer and Texan beer brand Karbach Brewery Company, which was acquired by the global giant in November.
