AdVini acquires majority share in Stellenbosch Vineyards
French wine powerhouse AdVini has acquired a majority stake in Stellenbosch Vineyards in a move that cements its ambitions to be a major player in South Africa.
As part of the sale, AdVini will take ownership of Stellenbosch Vineyards’ winemaking facility and logistical centre as well as its Stellenbosch Vineyards, Flagship, Credo, Infiniti, Welmoed, Arniston Bay and Versus wine brands.
Antoine Leccia, CEO of AdVini
The acquisition comes off the back of an international distribution agreement between the two companies, which began at the beginning of the year, that covers the Americas, Asia, travel retail and the rest of the world.
Located on the historic Welmoed wine farm, which dates back to 1690, Stellenbosch Vineyards has cultivated long-term relationships with grape growers and sources fruit from several vineyard sites in the South African region. The winery will continue to deal directly with existing customers.
“With the addition of Stellenbosch Vineyards, our South African wine offering in the premium segment is becoming an enticing selection,” said Antoine Leccia, CEO of AdVini.
“AdVini is present in over 100 countries due to its sales network and close relationships with its customers. We are all proud to be joining the AdVini family,” Eduan Steynberg, managing director of Stellenbosch Vineyards, added.
AdVini owns 2,333 hectares of vineyards across France and is also a majority shareholder of South Africa’s Ken Forrester Vineyards.
Among its French estates are Domaine Laroche in Chablis, Ogier and Clos de l’Oratoire des Papes in Châteauneuf-du-Pape; and Château Capet-Guillier in Saint-Emilion. AdVini’s turnover in 2017 was €250 million.
AdVini already owns 200 hectares of vineyards in Stellenbosch with L’Avenir, Ken Forrester Vineyards, Le Bonheur Wine Estate and Maison du Cap.
