Tenth French GourMay turns focus on south of France

This year’s Le French GourMay event is shining a light on France’s southern Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region as it celebrates its 10th anniversary in Hong Kong.

The theme was announced at a press conference last week by the Consul General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, Eric Berti, following last year’s theme on Champagne.

Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur is the world’s biggest producer of rosé wine, accounting for 10% of world production, according to Business France, co-organiser of the event together with Union Pay.

Moderated by the influence Mediterranean sea and Alps, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur has the largest grape varieties in France and the oldest vines. AOCs in the region include Côtes de Provence, Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence, Coteaux des Baux, Coteaux Varois, Bandol, Cassis, Côtes du Rhône, Luberon, Ventoux and Châteauneuf du Pape. 

Wines from Château d’Esclans, Domaines Ott, Chateau Léoube, and Guigal will be among the wines on pour at tastings during the month-long event. 

In addition to wine, the event will highlight southern France’s local produce such as its olives, honey and truffles.

More than 200 partners including Michelin-starred chefs, 110 restaurants as well as 43 food and wine importers, 41 retailers and 11 learning centres in Hong Kong and Macau will participate in le French GourMay 2018 with dedicated south of France menus, wine tastings, promotions and workshops.
