Pommery names new chef ambassador
British chef Sophie Michell has been named as Champagne Pommery’s new ‘chef ambassador’ in which role she will promote not only the house, but women in the industry and the brand’s new English wine project.
A chef and food writer with over 20 years of experience in the restaurant industry, Michell is highly regarded as a consultant and has designed menus for some of the world’s leading chefs.
As chef ambassador her role will be manifold, including creating champagne pairings, promoting the work of women in food and wine and focusing on innovation – including on Pommery’s ‘Louis Pommery’ English sparkling wine project, the first wine of which will be launched next year.
She commented: “I have been working alongside Champagne Pommery for a while now through my involvement with events such as the Pommery Dorset Seafood Festival.
“I love the strong female link with Pommery and the fact that Madame Pommery was the first to invent Brut Champagne, yet at the same time reinvesting her fortune into her workers pension funds and social security. It makes for such a great story and I’m very excited to take on this role as chef ambassador. I’m looking forward to learning more about Pommery, its range of award winning champagnes. It really is a dream job for me.”
Sara Hicks, director at Champagne Pommery, added: “Our long standing connection with food and cuisine together with our history of strong women and innovation behind the Pommery brand has helped us develop into the second largest global champagne business.
“With this in mind, Sophie Michell is the perfect chef ambassador for us. Sophie’s passion helped her to break through barriers as a young, female executive chef. We see her as a role model for successful women, as well as a genius in the kitchen. We’re very excited to have her on board and look forward to our joint projects moving forward.”
