This couple visited every single pub called ‘The Red Lion’ in the UK

A couple have shared their success after visiting each and every one of the UK’s 632 pubs called “The Red Lion” in less than three years.

The Red Lion is supposedly the most popular pub name in the UK.

Kayleigh Snell, 30, and Paul Tyack, 31, began their mission in 2015, gradually clocking up more than 20,000 miles by car, bus, train and even a plane to Inverness to ensure no Red Lions went unseen.

Snell and Tyack decided to embark on their intrepid pub crawl after a trip to their local Red Lion in Northmoor, Oxford, and discovering that it was the most common name for a UK pub from locals.

They now have just one boozer left to visit, the Red Lion in Boldre, Hampshire, before they can call time on their boozy Odyssey.

“We’ve been to so many places and met so many interesting people and everyone’s been really generous,” Kayleigh told Wessex News.

“After we’d been to about 200 Red Lions, someone said to us why didn’t we do it for charity, so we decided to raise money.”

Since launching the charity arm of their adventure, the couple have raised more than £1,800 for Pulmanory Hypertension UK.

Kayleigh said that there were a handful of pubs that went the extra mile to ensure the couple felt welcome.

“The Red Lion in Heolgerrig in Merthyr Tydfil – they were bringing us food, and free drinks, when we told them what we were doing, it was fantastic,” she said.

“And St Osyth in Essex, the locals and the owners were so warm and welcoming.”
