Patrón launches Margarita ‘bath bombs’ designed to be dropped into Tequila
In honour of International Margarita Day next week, Patrón has created a line of Margarita-flavoured fizzers which can be dropped into a glass of Tequila to create an instant cocktail.
Premium Tequila brand Patrón has taken the bath bomb concept and is bringing it into the cocktail sector.
It has released a line of Margarita-flavoured pellets or fizzers that can be dropped into a glass of Tequila to create a fruit-flavoured sip. Like a bath bomb, when the fizzer hits the liquid, it starts to disintegrate. After the entire ball has disappeared, the cocktail, which will not be fizzy, is ready.
Rather than the traditional lime, the Margarita fizzers are flavoured with passion fruit and jalapeño, lychee and chia seed, tomato and thyme, celery and elderflower, pickled plum and kelp tea, and orange marmalade with Sherry. Each combination was inspired by Patrón’s Margarita of the Year Competition.
According to the brand, the ‘Margarita bombs’ are made from “real ingredients” rather than flavourings.
For the time being, the fizzers will only be available at the Norwood members club in New York at a cost of $30 per cocktail. The club’s partnership with Patrón has opened it up to non-members who will be able to visit the bar on 22 February by booking a reservation via Reservations@norwoodclub.com.
It remains to be seen whether the Tequila brand will launch the DIY mixology line to the general public.
Patrón was founded in 1989 by Californian entrepreneur John Paul DeJoria, co-founder of Paul Mitchell hair products. Last month it was announced that spirits giant Bacardi was buying the ultra-premium Tequila brand in a deal that values Patrón at US$5.1 billion, eclipsing the Diageo / Casamigos deal by $4.1bn.
