Jay-Z racks up $100,000 bar bill in New York

US rapper Jay-Z reportedly racked up a bar bill totalling US$91,135, after paying full price for 40 bottles of his own Ace of Spades Armand de Brignac Champagne, the brand which he bought in November 2014.

According to Page Six, the music mogul was celebrating the birthday of close friend Juan “OG” Perez, the president of Roc Nation Sports, with other Roc Nation execs on Sunday, with the group stopping by a number Manhattan hot spots.

After picking up the $13,000 dinner bill at Zuma, Jay-Z and the group continued to Made in Mexico in Inwood, spending a further $9,000 on drinks, including Jay’s D’Ussé Cognac, the tabloid reports.

Their final stop, the nearby nightclub Playroom, saw Jay-Z order 40 bottles of Ace of Spades Champagne for the group of six.

According to the bill, posted on Snapchat by the group’s server, Jay-Z paid full price for the bottles, and was seen handing out many to nearby tables – a shrewd move given the publicity generated for the brand by the audacious cost, in most circles, of the evening.

The final bill came to $91,135, including an $11,000 tip. In total, the evening cost the rapper around $113,000.

Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter had been a supporter of Armand de Brignac, which is produced by Champagne Cattier, long before he bought the brand in 2014, with bottles appearing in his music video for the single Show Me What You Got around the time of its launch in 2006.

In 2012 the rapper commissioned a 350-bottle tower of Armand de Brignac to serve as the centrepiece at a fundraiser for President Obama at his 40/40 nightclub in New York.
