Tom Sellers to launch Robin Hood-themed pop-up

Chef Tom Sellers, of Michelin-starred Restaurant Story in Bermondsey, is to host a one-off Robin Hood-themed pop-up in London, which will feature a guest appearance by chef Jason Atherton.

A forest-themed 40-seat bar will serve a woodland-themed cocktail menu created by mixologist Matt Whiley and supported by Bombay Sapphire

Called Merry Men, the pop-up will coincide with the closure of Restaurant Story (from 31 March) while it undergoes a complete interior renovation – the first since opening in 2013 – which will see the restaurant’s look evolve to “reflect Tom’s development as a restauranteur”.

Merry Men references the band of outlaws that followed Robin Hood – a tribute to Seller’s upbringing in Nottingham – and will draw upon the chef’s passion for history and provenance by bringing elements of storytelling into the menu.

The ‘pop-up’, which will run from 4 April to 22 April, will host a number of guest chefs, including Jason Atherton on 18 April, who will collaborate on a menu and cook alongside Sellers for one night only.

Dishes will include bone marrow, eel and parsley; smoked haddock in milk; braised and hot smoked lamb leg, anchovies and capers; beef cheeks in hay; and lardy cake with salted blackberries and cultured ice cream.

On the drinks front, a forest-themed, 40-seat bar will serve a woodland-themed cocktail menu created by mixologist Matt Whiley and supported by Bombay Sapphire, alongside a smaller snack menu called ‘Pig Tales’.

A portion of the proceeds generated from the pop-up will be donated to Hospitality Action, which supports members of the hospitality industry struggling with a variety of problems, including financial hardship, drug addition or alcohol abuse.

To mark the final evening of ‘Merry Men’, the team will host The Last Feast, a market day where all elements of ‘pop-up’ will be for sale, from crockery to cutlery and glassware, with the profits set to be donated to Hospitality Action.

The 60-seat venue – a former Victorian tannery spread over three floors – will be located at 47-49 Tanner Street SE1 3PL and will be open for dinner Wednesday-Saturday and lunch on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets must be pre-booked and are priced at £65 for four courses including a drink.

Bookings will be available from 19 February 2018 here.
