UK’s ‘first’ gin spa launches in Glasgow

The team behind Gin71, which operates three dedicated gin bars in Scotland, has opened what it claims is the UK’s first gin spa in Glasgow with botanical-inspired treatments.

With Brits buying a record 47 million bottles of gin in the year ending 9 September 2017, this is certainly not the first time that the juniper laden spirit and the beauty industry have collided.

With a plethora of gin and tonic scented candles, hand washes and lip balms available, the Gin71 team have taken things one step further.

While there is plenty of gin on offer, the treatments themselves are non-alcoholic. The new spa, located in the Merchant City district of Glasgow, uses the JustBe Botanicals range, developed by Scottish aromatherapist Gail Bryden.

At The Gin Spa, guests are first asked to choose their favourite botanical aromatherapy oil. Treatments are centred around how you should feel afterwards. Opt for ‘happy’ and you will be pampered with a product containing pink grapefruit, lime and bergamot, whereas with ‘tranquil’, cedarwood, lavender and geranium are used.

The spa offers four different packages with a range of massage, manicure and pedicure options, with prices starting at £55 for 30 mins. Individual massages, facials and nail treatments are also offered.

Depending on the choice of package, guests can enjoy a gin and tonic from the Fever Tree trolley and an afternoon tea, while the Twilight Tasting package includes a five-course gin-inspired tasting menu. The Gin Spa will be partnering with both Gin71 and it’s sister business Cup Tea Rooms to provide the dining elements of their packages.

Managing director of Gin71 and The Gin Spa, Paul Reynolds said that the spa is “the perfect storm of great service, exceptional treatments, product and of course gin”.

Gail Bryden, founder of JustBe, added: “Every product is lovingly handmade in Scotland using purely natural ingredients with the soul purpose of making you feel consciously alive. Our core values are authenticity, passion and positive intent”.
