Spanish film journalist receives top award at Bodega Matarromera

Spanish film journalist Javier Angulo has been presented with the Matarromera Golden Insignia by Carlos Moro, president of Bodega Matarromera, for his role in the dissemination of art and culture in Spain.

Angulo was specifically recognised for his work on, and commitment to, the cinema and film industry in Valladolid.

He was presented with the accolade at Bodega Matarromera in Valbuena de Duero where he was taken around the winery’s facilities.

Angulo has been running the Valladolid International Film Festival for the last ten years alongside Teresa Lapuente, marketing director of the Sitges festival, who accompanied him on the visit.

Bodega Mattaromera has been working with the Valladolid International Film Festival for the last few years, and according to Moro “we must recognise these types of people who will remain in the history of a country or of a region due to leaving behind them a course that charts the present and future of our evolution”.

“Wine, like cinema, is an art for all those who have a passion for the land and a love of vineyards,” he added.

Angulo was born in Bilbao in 1949 and ran and founded the magazine Cinemania until 2006. In 2007 he launched TVMálaga, the first televised Spanish cinema and fiction festival and is the author of works including ‘Ibarrola, a cursed painter?’ and ‘The powerful influence of Jamón, jamón’. He made his debut as a scriptwriter and cinema director with the documentary film La Pérdida which is about the brain drain caused by the Argentinian dictatorship.

Previous winners of the Matarromera Golden Insignia include ambassador of Mexico to Spain Roberta Lajous, Óscar Puente, Tomás Burgos, Fernando Rey and Josefa García Cirac.
