HDH number one fine wine auctioneer in US
Hart Davis Hart was once again the leading fine wine auctioneer in the US in 2017, achieving a sales total of US$48.6 million and breaking several records along the way.
The house held seven fine wine sales last year and says it achieved a 100% sell-through rate to boot. Its sales in September and December proved the most lucrative, both making in excess of $9m.
The most expensive lot sold by HDH in 2017 was a 12-bottle case of 1982 Le Pin which made $155,350 – a new record for Le Pin sold at auction.
Another record-breaking lot was a whole 225 litre barrel of 2016 Montrose, which realised $119,500.
Aside from those two lots however the other top-selling lots were all various flavours of Burgundy; including Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Montrachet and Romanée-Conti, Henri Jayer Cros Parantoux and Domaine Leroy Chambertin.
That said, Red Bordeaux was still the top-performing wine category at HDH in 2017 and Lafite, Mouton Rothschild, Petrus, Latour, Haut-Brion and Margaux among the top-performing labels.
HDH also noted the strong performance of American whiskey, Bourbon and Scotch – a growing category at auction.
