A bar in Washington has created a politically-charged cocktail menu for the US government shutdown
A bar in Washington has devised a political cocktail menu in the wake of the US government’s shutdown over funding disagreements.

Hundreds of thousands of federal workers will be unable to report for work on Monday, as the US Senate struggles to end a government shutdown which came into effect at midnight on Friday 19 January.

The shutdown came after lawmakers failed to agree on a spending bill that would dictate the distribution of funds to state-operated facilities until the middle of February 2018.
Capitol Bar — a bar and restaurant on Washington D.C.’s Capitol Hill — was quick to capitalise on the political meltdown with a range of cocktails made available the moment lockdown went into effect.
Drinks include the “Have you ever met a Haitian?” made with banana-flavoured Bacardi rum, pineapple juice, cranberry soda and “guilt”, and the “Affordable Beer Act” — a can of National Bohemian beer spiked with Motezuma Blue tequila.
The drinks have even been made affordable for those whose paycheques will take a hit thanks to the lockdown, as Capitol is selling the cocktails for just $5 (£3.60) to anyone carrying a federal employee I.D. card.
