Marcelo Papa named technical director at Concha y Toro
Chilean winemaker Marcelo Papa has been appointed technical director of Viña Conch y Toro, meaning he will now lead the technical management of the company’s entire portfolio.
Having joined Concha y Toro in 1998 working on the Casillero del Diablo brand, Papa added the Marques de Casa Concha brand to his responsibilities a year later and he was made head winemaker at the Puente Alto Winery by the end of 1999.
As head winemaker of the company, Papa has been instrumental in implementing improved agricultural and oenological development across the three brands and also put in motion the Maycas del Limarí project in 2005.
Eduardo Guilisasti, CEO of Viña Concha y Toro said: “The appointment of Marcelo to this position serves to reinforce the important focus on quality that the Winery aims to embody in all of its wines.
“The Company’s solid growth has been made possible thanks to its permanent investment plan which has strengthened production capacity and proprietary vineyards, with a constant focus on obtaining the highest quality and further developing the premium wine category, targeting our investments towards this segment.
“Together with Marcelo, we will further strengthen this dedication to quality that has always been our hallmark, and we trust that his outstanding track record and technical approach will provide a unique direction and inspiration for our talented winemaking team.”
