Adrià to recreate childhood favourites for charity
Molecular gastronomy maven Ferran Adrià is offering someone the chance to have their favourite childhood sweet recreated as part of a charity auction.
The former El Bulli head chef will reimagine the winning bidder’s chosen sweet or snack with his signature flair – db would love to see what he’d do with a Sherbet Fountain.
The experience will also include a four-hour meal and meet-and-greet with Adrià at Enigma Atelier, the Barcelona restaurant run by Adrià’s brother Albert. Winners also get to take home a copy of the recipe for their revisited sweet.
The bidding is open on CharityBuzz.com and ends on 12 November. The top bit currently stands at $5,750 but has an estimate of $20,000.
Adrià has collaboration with One Drop on the offering, which works to improve access to safe water for communities worldwide.
Half the funds raised will go toward One Drop and the other half to Adrià ‘s charity of choice.
Dubbed “the Salvador Dali of the kitchen”, Adrià is one of the world’s most respected and highly regarded chefs known for inventing molecular gastronomy.
His three Michelin star El Bulli in the town of Roses near Barcelona was named best restaurant in the world five times from 2002 to 2009.
During his time at the restaurant Adrià created 1,846 dishes, many of which pushed the boundaries of gastronomy via scientific techniques like spherification.
As much a theatrical experience as a meal, dinner at El Bulli played with preconceptions about colour, flavour, texture and temperature, taking diners down the rabbit hole on a multi-sensory journey of discovery.
