The 15 cheapest countries in the world for a glass of Prosecco
Want to know the best-value cities to enjoy a glass of Prosecco? We have collated the top 15 cheapest places to imbibe Italian fizz — and the results should surprise even the most seasoned Spumante fan.
A new study has collated the average price of a glass of Prosecco in some of the world’s most popular tourist destinations.
The research – carried out by cruise agent Bolsover Cruise Club — ranked 30 of the world’s most prestigious cities according to the price of Prosecco by the glass in bars and restaurants.
Brits consumed around one third of the world’s Prosecco in the past year, and while a city such as London is commonly perceived as one of the more expensive places to have a drink, readers may be surprised to learn that it’s actually one of the best cities to find affordable Italian fizz.
Even more surprisingly, only one Italian city features in our list.
Venice is the undisputed home of Prosecco, so it’s no wonder that the city ranks in the top three affordable drinking destinations, but fizz drinkers in Milan are paying on average a staggering £14 per glass, more than double the cost of a drink in London.
But if you really need to look after the pennies, Central and Eastern Europe are your best bets, with Budapest and Hungary coming out on top as the cheapest cities for Italian sparkling wine.
Commenting on the results, Michael Wilson, Managing Director of Bolsover Cruise Club, said: “Eastern Europe is renowned for being a perfect location for a cheap getaway and this research proves no different with Budapest and Warsaw taking the top spots.”
“However, if the demand is high then these prices are likely to keep increasing.”
