The 15 cheapest cities in the world for a gin and tonic

“The gin and tonic has saved more Englishmen’s lives, and minds, than all the doctors in the empire.”

Winston Churchill may have exaggerated the healing powers of mother’s ruin, but it’s no doubt that wherever Brits take their holiday, a tall G&T is always on the agenda.

Now, a new study into the average price of drinks around the world has revealed the cheapest cities to indulge in juniper juice — and the results are fairly surprising.

The research – carried out by cruise agent Bolsover Cruise Club — ranked 30 of the world’s most prestigious cities according to the price of a single-measure of gin with tonic in bars and restaurants.

Brits are some of the heftiest gin drinkers in the world. Gin sales in the UK broke £1 billion in 2016, and British gin-thusiasts consumed a staggering 19 million litres of the spirit in 2016, according to the Wine and Spirits Trade Association (WSTA).

But despite its status as a national treasure, only one UK city — Edinburgh — makes it onto the list. In fact, drinkers in London are spending an average of £8.82 on every G&T, more than three times the cost of a drink in our cheapest city.

If you’re looking to save on your serve, head to Central Europe, where you can get your hands on a gin drink for less than £3.
