Krug makes $6,500 Champagne backpack

Champagne Krug has teamed up with designer menswear label Berluti to make a $6,500 leather backpack specifically for carrying your Champagne.

The Wild Journey backpack, which will be available in Berluti stores next month, has a thermal lining designed to keep your Champagne chilled, as well as a removable, insulated foam insert, presumably to protect your Champagne from excessive clinking. The bag itself is crafted from Venetian leather in Krug’s trademark dark cherry colour.

For the princely sum of $6,500 (£4,900), buyers will receive not only the backpack, but a bottle of Krug Rosé Champagne, a chrome wine stopper, and two Riedel glasses – specifically designed for rosé Champagne.

The backpack is the third installation of wine carriers in the “Berluti pour Krug” collection, with its previous editions, the “Short Journey” and “Long Journey,” styled on a briefcase.

According to Olivier Krug, director of the House of Krug, the Wild Journey backpack provides free-spirited travellers with the tools for a “spontaneous escape” – offering adventure with a heavy dose of luxury.

“When I think of who ‘Krug Lovers’ are, I see that they are independent people, with unique personalities and strong self-confidence,” said Krug in a press release.

“They are lovers of contrast and paradox, seeking enjoyment. They want an unforgettable experience, pleasure beyond perfection.”
