The Singleton unveils 41-year-old whisky in Asia
The Singleton of Glen Ord Forgotten Drop Series will launch a 41-year-old whisky in Asia – the oldest spirit the distillery has released.
Crafted by its ‘Master of Malts’, Maureen Robinson, the whisky is bottled at a cask strength of 49.9% ABV and is the oldest whisky released since the distillery was founded in 1838.
The whisky will be available starting from 7 September in a few select countries in Asia, with each selling for the whopping price of £2,200 due to its scarcity, as only 600 bottles were made, according to the company.
The inaugural release was made using a small batch of predominantly refill American oak casks, different from the distillery’s traditional use of refill European oak ex-Sherry casks, the company noted.
“The influence of the refill American oak makes The Singleton of Glen Ord 41 Year Old so precious, as it’s so unusual for this distillery to have a whisky of this age in this type of wood,” explained Robinson.
The resulting liquid takes on “depth of taste” and complexity on top of the distillery’s signature balance and smoothness, the company added.
Yeah, we not only got one of these, but we had it signed by the wonderful Maureen Robinson herself. Baaaam.
