Man stranded in desert survives on beer, crackers and urine

A man from Phoenix in Arizona broke down in the desert near Crown King, surviving on beer, crackers, a mouldy sandwich, and by drinking his own urine.

Mick Ohman got into difficulty after he took the scenic route back from lunch in Crown King. Traveling to Phoenix and using Google Maps, he followed a road that became increasingly rough and boulder-strewn.

The uneven surface and sweltering conditions proved too much for his car, leaving him stranded.

Speaking to ABC News, he said that he had no phone signal and only had a half-full bottle of water, two cans of beer, a mouldy sandwich and some crackers in a lunchbox in his car.

After consuming his meagre supplies, Ohman even resorted to drinking his own urine before finding a stream.

Referring to the urine, he told ABC News, “I was surprised it wasn’t as obnoxious as I thought it would be. The temperature was what got me, as warm as it was”.

Leaving notes on his car window begging for help, Mick was eventually rescued on his third day in the wilderness by a dirt biker called Troy, who took him to Lake Pleasant where he assessed by a medical team.
