Cointreau heiress puts $12.4m Malibu mansion on sale

Béatrice Cointreau, descendant of the founders of Cointreau and Rémy Martin, has put her five-acre Malibu vineyard estate, used to produce her Admirable wine label, on sale for US$12.5 million.

The five-acre Malibu estate, L’Admirable Malibu, is located on between Zuma Beach and Carbon Beach, and is planted with over 3,000 vines of Viognier, Cabernet, Syrah and Chardonnay, used to produce wines under Cointreau’s Admirable wine label. Cointreau’s California wines currently sell for between $40 and $60 a bottle, with the Malibu Coast declared an American Viticultural Area (AVA) in August 2014.

According to the John Aaroe Group, which is marketing the property, Cointreau is “ready to pass the Admirable legacy on to a new steward,” and plans to return to France to focus more fully on her Tresor de France Champagne label, which she launched in 2015.

The five-bedroom home, built in 2009, boasts six bathrooms, an elevator, a safe room, wine cellar and tasting room, a pool and spa, alongside a vineyard that surrounds the estate. It was sold to Cointreau in 2013 for just over $5 million, with Cointreau having spent the past four years reviving the once derelict vineyard.

Cointreau is the great-granddaughter of Edouard Cointreau, the founder of the orange liqueur brand, and former CEO of Champagne Gosset.
