Calon Ségur vintages see price spike
Four vintages of Calon Ségur hit all-time highs on the Liv-ex Exchange earlier this week, highlighting the label’s on-going appeal.
On Monday night this week (14 August), the 1996, 2002, 2006 and 2012 vintages of the Saint-Estèphe estate hit new trading highs on the Exchange.
The 1996 hit the highest price, £845 per dozen, while the 2002 was the lowest traded of the four of £625 a case. The 2006 and 2012 are now both over £700 a case.
The third growth saw a prolonged period of price activity following its sale to Suravenir Assurances in summer 2012 asking Liv-ex to ask at the time if the trend would continue.
Better critical scores have no doubt helped and in the last five years the Calon Ségur index on Liv-ex has out-performed the wider Bordeaux 500 and gained 20% on the year-to-date.
