Hong Kong importer Northeast takes on Spain’s Codorniu
Hong Kong importer Northeast Wines & Spirits has taken on Spain’s famous Cava producer, Codorniu, for the local market.
Codorniu 1551 Brut
The oldest family-run wine business in Spain, the Codorníu Raventós group claims to be the first producer of Cava. Two of the group’s flagship brands including Codorniu 1551 Brut and Selección Raventós are now going to be available in Hong Kong through Northeast.
Codorniu 1551 Brut commemorates the year Codorníu’s was founded and is a blend of three Spanish traditional varieties – Macabeo, Parellada and Xarel-lo.
“The soft fruity notes of Macabeo combined with the elegance and suppleness of Parellada join forces with Xarel-lo’s complexity and structure, rendering this Cava as fresh and elegant in the mouth as in the nose”, according to the Cava producer.
The ‘Selección Raventós’ range consists of a brut and a rosé. Selección Raventós originated as a homage to the Raventós family, being their private selection Cava. ThebBrut version of this Cava is a blend of Chardonnay, Xarel-lo and Macabeo.
The rosé is a combination of Pinot Noir with the traditional Macabeo, Xarel-lo and Parellada, giving it “a different expression of the modern and traditional touch,” said the company.
With over 3,000 hectares of vineyards, the company currently owns 10 estates; eight in Spain (Bodegas Bilbaínas, Legaris, Scala Dei, Raimat, Bach, Nuviana, Abadía de Poblet, and Codorníu), one in Napa Valley (Artesa), and another in Argentina (Septima).
