Centenarian credits love of wine for long life
A 100-year-old woman has credited her long life to her love of wine, telling reporters at her centenarian celebrations, “I like my wine. Don’t take it away from me.”

Florence Bearse, of Maine, celebrated her 100th birthday in Bangor on Thursday at the Westgate Center for Rehabilitation where she lives, as reported by local TV station WLBZ.
Originally from Massachusetts, Bearse ran a restaurant in Lagrange in her younger years, eventually moving to Maine calling it “beautiful”.
Known her her no-nonsense demeanour, Bearse offered partygoers another piece of advice between sips of wine; not to “take any baloney”.
However Bearse is not the first to have associated a long life with a tipple of two.
Earlier this year a Britain’s oldest man, who celebrated his 109th birthday in March of this year, credited his long life to a lifetime of eating German wine, curry and sausages.
Born on 29 March 1908, Bob Weighton lived in Taiwan in the 1930s, dined on sushi and dumplings long before they became fashionable in the UK.
He also said that he enjoys sausages, curry and, when it comes to drink, he told the publication, “I like a refreshing glass of German wine”, speaking to The Telegraph.
Antonio Docampo of Bodegas Docampo in Galicia died last year at the age of 107, but put the secret to his long life down to drinking four bottles of red wine a day.
Docampo, who fought during the Spanish Civil War in the 1930s, had been accustomed to drinking two bottles of red wine at lunch and a further two bottles at dinner, according to The Independent.
