Lidl ups its offer of Hungarian wines
Lidl is launching its largest range of Hungarian wines in its July Wine Cellar promotion.

The discounter has been keen to tap into Eastern European wines after seeing its first Hungarian range – three red, four white and one dessert wine that launched last March – “fly off shelves”, wine buying manager Anna Krettman said.
“There is a lot more to bring out from Eastern Europe,” she told db at the time, pointing out its “stand-out” white whites from Hungary, which had including the Château Dereszla Tokaji Furmint (£5.99) and Tornai 2013 Somló Juhfark.
The new wines, which will go into store on 27 July, comprise 15 Hungarian wines – six white, five red, 1 rose, two dessert and one sparkling Tokaji, and includes a Pinot Grigio from Transdanubia, two Sauvignon Blanc and a Zenit from Somló, Tornai 2016 (RRP: 5.99) as well as a Hungarian Pinot Noir from Balatan, a Villányi Portugieser (RRP : £5.99), an Indiánnyár from Eger (RRP: £6.99) a Gránát Villányi Cuvée (RRP: £6.99) a Késo ̋ i Arany Tokaji .
It has also rolled out four Austrian white – a Grüner Veltliner Reserve, a Grüner Veltliner Terraces, and Grüner Veltliner Granit from Dom Wachau and a Riselaing for Pfaffl, four German wines and fifteen French wines from the Loire, Rhone, Languedoc-Roussillon and Alsace.
Last year, Lidl’s consultant MW Caroline Gilby MW told db she was keen to expand the Hungarian wines to incorporate wines from Romania and Moldova which were showing potential and Croatia, Slovenia, Macedonia and Bulgaria in the “longer-term”.
