Mazzei to open resto in Battersea Power Station
Having just launched Radici in Islington, Italian chef Francesco Mazzei is to open a modern Italian restaurant in Battersea Power Station this summer.
Named Fiume, meaning ‘river’ in Italian, Mazzei will be chef patron of the new venture, which will be run day-to-day by head chef Francesco Chiarelli.
Calabria born Chiarelli trained under Mazzei at both L’Anima and Sartoria on Savile Row, where Mazzei is chef patron.
The 120-cover restaurant will be set within the first phase of Battersea Power Station’s £9 billion Circus West Village redevelopment overlooking the Thames.
Designed by Macaulay Sinclair, Fiume will feature an open kitchen, wood-fired oven, counter dining for 15 covers, and a terrace offering al fresco dining.
“When I saw the plans for Circus West Village and Battersea Power Station, there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to be involved.
“It is a one-of-a-kind project that will attract people from all over the world and I can’t wait to feed them all,” Mazzei said.
Rob Tincknell, CEO of the Battersea Power Station Development Company added: “Francesco Mazzei is an amazing chef with a strong track record and we are delighted that he has chosen Battersea Power Station to unveil his new restaurant.
“It will add to the wide selection of food offerings, bars, and other businesses that will make this area an incredible place to live, work or visit.”
Among the other food and drink venues in the development are Vagabond, Wright Brothers, Dodd’s Gin, Mother – an Italian pizzeria from Copenhagen’s meat packing district, and seasonal all-day dining concept Duckroad.
