Hailstorm hits China’s Château Rongzi in Shanxi
A recent hailstorm in China’s northern Shanxi has hit the province’s Château Rongzi, pummelling grape vines, wiping out production at 2,5000-mu (166 hectares) of its vineyards, equivalent to RMB 20 million (US$2.9 million) worth of damage, the winery’s general manager has revealed.

The hailstorm, although it only lasted for about 20 minutes, has resulted in a 50% loss for the winery’s estimated production, as reported by Chinese news website Wines Info.
Located in Xiangning, Linfen city, south of Shanxi’s provincial capital Taiyuan, Rongzi boasts a strong wine consulting team that includes former winemaker at Petrus, Jean-Claude Berrouet.
In addition to Linfen, other badly affected areas are Changning and Guantou.
Its ‘Etiquette Jaune’ label, a Cabernet dominant Bordeaux blend, won a Silver medal at our Asian Cabernet Sauvignon Masters and its ‘Etiquette Brun’ label bagged a Gold medal.
The former sells for RMB 3,288 (US$476) and is ranked as one of the most expensive Chinese wines by dbHK.
