Sotheby’s to host Burgundy sale in London
Sotheby’s London salesroom will play host to a Burgundy-dominant fine wine auction later this month.
Taking place on 26 April, the ‘Burgundy & Beyond’ sale features the collections of two “Continental” consignees and covers all the great names of Burgundy – and a few beyond.
Highlights of the 810-lot sale include wines from (among others): Coche-Dury, Dugat-Py, Dujac, Henri Jayer, Lafon, Liger-Belair, Méo-Camuzet, Roumier and Rousseau, as well as first and second growth claret, Chateauneuf du Pape from Sabon and Beaucastel and mature Vega Sicilia ‘Unico’.
Serena Sutcliffe MW, honorary chairman of Sotheby’s Wine, commented: “This is a sale to warm the heart, delight the taste buds and where close perusal of the catalogue brings its own rewards! Collections from great European connoisseurs are always extra-special as they are amassed, and enjoyed, by people whose wine knowledge is deeply ingrained and often honed by generations from the same family.
“These are treasure-trove cellars as they contain so many wines that are extremely difficult to access, due to world-wide demand and relatively small vineyard holdings.”
