D&D London to open New York restaurant

Restaurant group D&D London is to open its first site in New York next autumn on the fourth floor of the new Hudson Yards development.

David Loewi and Des Gunewardena, owners of D&D London, are to open a site in the Big Apple

The 11,000 sq ft modern brasserie will boast views across the Hudson River and will share a space with a site run by Spanish-American chef José Andrés, credited for bringing the small plates concept to America.

“We’re thrilled to be opening a restaurant in what is widely considered to be the most exciting and ambitious development in New York. It has long been a desire of ours to bring a new flagship restaurant to this amazing city,” said chairman and CEO of D&D, Des Gunewardena.

“We spent a lot of time considering where to open and believe that the dynamism and creativity of Hudson Yards makes it the ideal location for us.

“In my view, there is no other city besides London that can match the energy, vibrancy and diversity of the New York dining scene, and we are incredibly excited to launch a new concept in what we think will become the new heart of Manhattan,” he added.

Kenneth Himmel, president and chief executive of Related Urban, which is co-curating the dining experiences at Hudson Yards, said:

“Des and D&D have created some of the most exciting and inventive dining concepts in the UK. We’re excited for D&D London to bring their unique perspective to Hudson Yards.”

D&D was founded by Des Gunewardena and David Loewi in 2006. Among the restaurants in the group are Quaglino’s, Le Pont de la Tour, Bluebird, Coq d’Argent, Launceston Place, Orrery, Avenue, Skylon, Sartoria and German Gymnasium.
