Bolney and Kew launch English fizz range

In a match made in British branding heaven, Bolney Wine Estate in West Sussex has joined forces with Kew Gardens on an English sparkling wine range.

The floral-inspired collection is formed of Bolney Estate Kew English Sparkling Brut and Bolney Estate Kew English Sparkling Brut Rosé 2014.

According to winemaker Sam Linter, the brut offers, “floral, zesty citrus fruit, honeysuckle and elderflower notes”, while the rosé displays “notes of raspberry and wild strawberry, with subtle savoury undertones adding complexity”.

The labels pay homage to the flora and fauna found in the English countryside and feature dragonflies, ladybirds and wild flowers found in Bolney’s vineyards. The label design was inspired by illustrations from the Kew archives.

“We have been producing wines since the 1970s and have continued to grow and develop over this time,” Linter said.

“We’re proud to add the Bolney Kew Sparkling collection to our offerings and widen the awareness of English horticulture and viticulture through our partnership,” she added.

The two English brands decided to collaborate due to their shared passion for biodiversity – the Bolney estate being a haven for wildlife, while the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew is a UNESCO world heritage site.

“English winemaking is an industry we are pleased to support, and Bolney is an excellent example of sustainable wine production,” said Quincy Leon, head of licensing and development at Kew.

“The wines are of the highest quality and Sam and her team share our thirst for promoting the importance of biodiversity, so we are proud to partner with them to produce this delightful range of sparkling wines,” he added.

The sparklers have gone on sale for £31 a bottle at the Kew Gardens shop and will soon be available at a number of high-end retailers in the UK.

This isn’t the first time Kew Gardens has hooked up with a drinks brand. Last year it collaborated with London distillery Dodd’s on Kew Organic Gin made using flora foraged from the gardens and organic botanicals from around the world. The label was also inspired by illustrations from Kew’s archives.
