Tycoon Tann launches dim sum menu paired with cocktails
Dim Sum specialist Tycoon Tann and Mod Bar in Central have teamed up to launch a brand new dim sum menu at Tycoon Tann paired with cocktails, hoping to usher in an unconventional pairing trend in Hong Kong.

“We are all set to lead the new trend of cocktail and dim sum pairing in Hong Kong as an elevated gourmet experience. As a place which celebrates Hong Kong’s roots and culture, we are keen to retain the traditional craftsmanship of dim sum making, bringing back a range of old-fashioned dim sum less common in Chinese restaurants, pairing them with Chinese-inspired cocktails made with indigenous ingredients as a modern tribute to the nostalgic days,” said Cherry Lo, executive director of bma Catering Management, the group behind Tycoon Tann.
The new menu aims to challenge the boundaries of traditional Chinese food, the company said.
The winter classic Steamed Glutinous Rice Roll with Preserved Meats (HK$36) is a warming and filling item with a strong, gamey flavour and is paired with the Tycoon Tann (HK$120), a Negroni-inspired signature cocktail made with Hayman’s Gin, Hau Diao, Rosso and Campari, cutting through the richness of the glutinous rice.
Not to be missed are the Steamed Dumplings with Boiled Quail’s Egg (HK$58), a much-loved recipe often found in old-style Chinese tea restaurants. The quail’s egg is stuffed inside the dumpling creating a velvety texture and yolky flavour, and is served with a gin-based cocktail called Yum Cha (HK$120).
The Crispy Taro Dumpling (HK$36) is deep-fried taro with an interesting honeycomb-shaped crust that goes hand-in-hand with the spicy Sun La Tang (HK$120), another gin-based cocktail served with kaffir lime and coconut juice, an interesting take on the famous sweet and sour soup.
Another highlight is the Crispy Long Springs Rolls with Shrimps and Wasabi (HK$78) that stand out with their sizzling taste and unique appearance. The kick from the wasabi is balanced by the Kraken Rum and Taro Syrup in a Captain’s Duty (HK$120).
Other classics at Tycoon Tann include the Crispy Barbecued Iberico Pork Puffs (HK$39) and Steamed Assorted Meat Dumplings with Peanuts (HK$36), paired perfectly with Chi Pao (HK$120) and Tycoonin (HK$125).
