Tesco adds new ‘top of the line’ tier to Finest range

Tesco has bolstered its premium own label Finest range with the roll out of ten new wines that it described as “luxury… without the usual price-tag”.

The predominantly French and Italian wines come from more unusual and upcoming regions, the retailer said, and would champion the winemakers who it had partnered with to make the wines. The bottles reveal a different design to the existing range, with a new silver shield on the front of the label and are available in 75cl bottles. Tesco is also rolling out the range in single serve, 187ml bottles to encourage trial.

“The introduction of the new premium wines is the latest stage of Tesco’s journey to develop its wine range, by improving the quality, selection and availability and simplify the pricing of their own label wines,” Tesco stated.

The wines will be available in more than 200 stores nationwide, as well as online, priced between £7 and £20.

The new lines comprise a Tesco finest* Margaux 2011, a Valpolicella Ripasso 2014 (RRP: £11.00) in partnership with Cantina Valpantena, a St Emilion Grand Cru 2011 (RRP: £16.00) in partnership with Chateau Val d’Or, Barbera d’Alba 2013 (RRP: £8.00), in partnership with Lo Zoccolaio, a Faugeres 2015  from the Languedoc (RRP: £8) in partnership with Maison du Sud, a sparkling red Lambrusco Reggiano Amabile DOC NV from Reggio Emilia in partnership with Cantine Riunite (RRP: £7), Mercurey Rouge ‘Selection Georges’ 2015 (RRP: £14.00), in partnership with Bouchard, Tesco Finest* Gaillac Perle 2016 (RRP: £7.00) in partnership with Castel Freres, Tesco Finest* Minervois La Liviniere 2015 (RRP:  £9.50), in partnership with Domaine de la Baume and Tesco Finest* Vire Clesse 2015 (RRP: £11.00), in partnership with Bouchard.

Tesco’s wine category buying manager James Davis MW said the new wines offered customers an “opportunity to discover a range of top quality wines at exceptional prices”.

“We are seeing that a large number of customers are looking for a terrific wine to celebrate a special occasion, or to be an interesting talking point at the dinner table,” he said. “We believe we’ve found some real hidden gems amongst some brilliant classics. With the help of our fantastic wine-making partners we’re able to bring these once exclusive wines to shoppers across the country.”
