Rebranded Champagne tasting attracts record number of labels

The newly reinstated, rebranded annual Champagne tasting in the UK has attracted more labels than ever before, the drinks business has just learned.

The Official #Champagne Experience Day will take place in London on 29 March

The event, which has changed its name from the Annual Champagne Tasting to The Official #Champagne Experience Day, has attracted as many as 72 brands, up almost 15% from 63 houses last year.

Speaking to the drinks business today about the increase for the event – which will take place on 29 March in King’s Cross, London – Francoise Peretti, head of the Comité Champagne in the UK, said that this was the highest number of brands ever to feature at an official trade tasting for Champagne in the UK.

She also said that the high number of houses choosing to attend the tasting proved that the new format for the event has boosted its appeal.

“It shows that there is a great interest in the event,” she said, adding, “And we have some brands that are showing at the event for the first time.”

She also said that it highlighted the importance of the UK for Champagne, despite news posted by db in January that the market was in decline in terms of volume sales.

“It shows that there is interest in the market,” she remarked.

Commenting on some of the new features of the annual tasting that have increased the event’s appeal for brand owners, she said that the addition of masterclasses in particular “have been very well received by the Champenois”.

“They wanted to have a platform for explaining a bit more about the product,” she recorded.

The tasting will feature two masterclasses and two roundtable discussions, covering topics from dosages to reserve wines and oxygen management in Champagne.

The Official #Champagne Experience Day will take place on Wednesday 29 March from 10am to 5.30pm at Central Saint Martins in King’s Cross London.
