Razvan Macici, head winemaker at South African producer Distell has reportedly left the company very suddenly mid-harvest.
Macici apparently left the company on Monday although news of his departure began to circulate on Twitter earlier today (9 March), while rumours that he was going to leave have reportedly been going around for some time.
Macici has been at Distell for almost 20 years. He spent 15 years as cellarmaster at Nederburg before becoming head winemaker across the company’s portfolio in July 2015.
Born in Romania into a winemaking family, Macici moved to South Africa in 1997 where he began making white wines for Distell.
Distell has been contacted for comment.
Dear Razvan, give me your email address as I would like you to come to Pretoria for the best Nederburg wine tasting!
