Delicato expands China presence with Black Stallion

California’s Delicato Family Vineyards is looking east for continuous growth as it expands its portfolio in China with the latest listing of Black Stallion wines by COFCO.

Referring to Asia as its “growth engine” by Jonas Hillergren, regional director of EMEA for Delicato Family Wines, on his visit to Hong Kong earlier this year, the winery’s partnership with China’s leading importer COFCO to distribute its flagship Black Stallion wines is seen as a further push for its presence in China, where its other brands such as Irony, Gnarly Head, Delicato Family Vineyards are already available.

The expansion comes on the heels of the successful COFCO launch of Delicato’s Belle Ambiance wines in China in 2015. Launched with the emerging Chinese millennial consumer in mind, Belle Ambiance struck a chord with the country’s growing audience’s desire for authenticity, quality and value.

“We value our relationship with COFCO, and extending distribution with Black Stallion is a significant milestone as we expand our brand presence across all key channels in China,” David DeBoer, vice president and general manager international of Delicato, commented on the partnership.

“Today’s Chinese consumers are looking for authenticity and trust in the products they purchase,” said Castle Li, general manager of COFCO Imported Wine & Spirits Division.

“Together, Delicato’s longstanding history as a responsible, family-owned producer of award-winning wine brands partnered with COFCO’s reputation as a trusted producer and importer fulfill this consumer need by providing great-tasting quality wine,”Li continued.

“We are pleased for the opportunity to grow our relationship with COFCO and to share our award-winning Black Stallion wines with a broader Chinese audience,” added Chris Indelicato, president and CEO of Delicato.
