Château Durfort-Vivens gets Demeter certification
Bordeaux second growth, Château Durfort-Vivens, has recently obtained Demeter certification for its entire 2016 harvest, making it the first classified growth in Margaux to be certified biodynamic, the estate has announced.
According to the château owner, Gonzague Lurton, the recognition is the result of years of hard work to achieve, “the best possible expression of the terroir in our wines and protecting the environment.”
Since Gonzague took over the Margaux property in 1992, he has gradually been converting its production to organic and biodynamic processes.
Château Ferrière, owned by Claire Villars, wife of Gonzague, obtained the ‘ECOCERT’ certification for its 2015 harvest and is producing organic wines. It is managed according to biodynamic principles and is currently undergoing conversion to obtain BIODIVIN approval.
In addition, Château Haut-Bages-Liberal, an 1855 fifth growth in Pauillac also owned by Villars, is in the process of converting to organic and biodynamic methods.
