Brangelina’s château Miraval not for sale

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie will not be selling their Provence wine estate Miraval despite their impending divorce, and have released a Miraval extra virgin olive oil.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s Provence wine estate Miraval is not for sale

Marc Perrin, owner of Château de Beaucastel in the Rhône, who makes the Miraval wines in collaboration with Pitt and Jolie, was quick to quash the sale rumours.

“The rumours about the sale of the domaine are false. It is an investment for the family and the children. They are involved in all aspects of running the estate,” Perrin said.

Miraval has branched out into olive oil

“We have long-term projects and we’ve just released the latest vintage of Miraval rosé with ‘bottled by Pitt, Jolie and Perrin’ on the label,’” he added.

Pitt and Jolie bought the 500-hectare Miraval in 2011 for a reported $60 million. The estate spans the Côteaux Varois-en-Provence and Côtes de Provence appellations, with its first 6,000 bottles of Miraval Rosé 2012 selling out in five hours.

A blend of Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Rolle, the wine went on to become the first rosé to appear in the Wine Spectator’s annual Top 100 list of the most exciting wines of the year.

The estate currently produces three wines: one rosé and two whites, with a Provence red made from Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cabernet Franc in the pipeline.

Miraval’s latest release is an organic extra virgin olive oil made from a blend of olives grown at the estate and organic olives grown on similar, high quality terroirs.

The olive trees at Miraval are cultivated on drystone walled terraces that allow the olives to ripen evenly.

According to its makers, the oil is “beautifully smooth with notes of almond, hazelnut and braised artichoke, and a persistent and spicy pepperiness on the palate that offers aromas of freshly cut grass”.

The oil has gone on sale for €29 for a half litre. It is housed in a black stoneware bottle to protect the liquid from UV-A and UV-B rays so that it stays fresh for longer.

Pitt and Jolie met in 2005 on the set of Mr and Mrs Smith. Their six children took part in their wedding ceremony, which was held at Miraval in 2014.
