Southern Hemisphere wines to shine in Chengdu

About 45 exhibitors from Chile, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand will present some of their top rated wines in the lead up to the upcoming Chengdu Food & Drinks Fair in March.

Fongyee Walker MW will lead a series of masterclasses during the Great Wines of Southern Hemisphere event

Organised by Vinolution Creative Marketing and Vinehoo.com, the wines will be showcased during the “Great Wines of Southern Hemisphere 2017” event from 19-22 March at Shangri-la Hotel in Chengdu, capital of southwestern Sichuan province in China. Most of the wines that will be poured are rated 90 points or above by internationally known critics, the organiser has said.

Supported by four wine trade organisations including Wines of South Africa, Wines of Chile, New Zealand Winegrowers and Wine Australia, the first edition of this event is aimed to provide buyers and traders an opportunity to learn more about wines and growing market trends from the four countries in Southern Hemisphere.

A series of masterclasses led by China’s first master of wine, Fongyee Walker MW, along with Lv Yang, wine director of Shangri-la Hotels and Resorts, and Julien Boulard, China-based wine educator, will look at Chenin Blancs from South Africa, wines from New Zealand’s Hawke’s Bay, Chile’s Bordeaux blends and the wine style evolution of Australian Shiraz during the four-day event.

A vertical tasting of Errazuriz’s Don Maximiano wines across 40 years will also be featured.

Some of the wineries exhibiting at the event will include Chile’s Emiliana and Mayacas del Limari, New Zealand’s Wither Hills and Villa Maria, as well as Australia’s Treasury Wine Estates and Cape Diamond from South Africa.

The Chengdu Food & Drinks Fair, widely considered to be China’s biggest wine fair, will run from 23 March to 25 March.
