ProWein charters ‘hotel ship’ for this year’s show
The organisers of international wine show ProWein have hired a cruise ship to accommodate visitors during this year’s exhibition.
The Swiss Pearl has 62 rooms available to hire for the duration of the show
The vessel, called the MS Swiss Pearl, has 62 rooms available to hire for the duration of the show, which runs from 19 to 21 March in Dusseldorf, and will be moored on the River Rhine just five minutes walk from the show.
According to Marius Berlemann, ProWein’s global head of wine and spirits, the boat provides rooms at an extremely convenient location right by the show – the MS Swiss Pearl will dock on the Rhine just outside the Schnellenburg restaurant, which occupies a riverfront location just beyond the car park for the exhibition space.
This is the first year that ProWein has chartered a ‘hotel ship’, and it can be booked through the exhibition organiser for €219 per person per night.
The boat comes with free Wifi and breakfast is provided, although those who choose the accommodation must book a room for a minimum of three nights, from 18-21 March.
According to Swiss shipping company SCYLLA, which owns the boat, the MS Swiss Pearl has a restaurant, lounge area and bar, along with a library, indoor swimming pool and sauna, and the cabins are all outward-facing.
The advent of the ProWein hotel ship is one of a number of new developments for this year’s fair, including a new emphasis on food for visitors following the installation of a ‘street food park’, comprising food trucks and a specially-constructed covered eating area.
This year’s exhibition also promises to deliver an increased focus on organic wines with the launch of Organic World, a showcase of 30 international organic wine producers.
2017 also sees a new circuit system designed to make it easier for visitors to navigate the vast show. Halls 9 to 17 will form a circuit progressing through the wine-producing regions of the world, with a covered walk-way linking the two halls.
As previously reported by the drinks business, ProWein has wound back the clock for this year, reverting to the usual opening hours of 9am-6pm, having trialled running the exhibition from 10am to 7pm in 2016 with the aim of “relaxing” the situation on roads and public transport around the grounds of the exhibition centre.
