Johnny Depp ‘spends $30K a month on wine’
Johnny Depp’s profligate lifestyle, which includes spending $30,000 a month on wine, has left the Hollywood actor in serious financial difficulty, according to his former business managers.
In the past Johnny Depp has said he is partial to Petrus, Cheval Blanc and DRC.
Earlier this month Depp sued The Management Group, a company employed to manage his finances, alleging it had grossly mismanaged his earnings.
The company has since countersued Depp, claiming that his excessive spending of more than $2 million (£1.6m) a month had led to his financial troubles and that Depp had ignored repeated warnings from them.
According to The New York Post’s Page Six, the most recent lawsuit alleges that Depp paid more than $75m to buy and maintain 14 homes, including a French château and a chain of islands in the Bahamas.
db reported how in 2015 Depp put his château near the village of Plan-de-la-Tour in the south of France, which according to reports included a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed wine cave, on the market for £16.5m.
Among the most impressive expenses listed in the lawsuit are $3m spent to blast writer Hunter S Thompson’s ashes out of a cannon and $30,000 a month spent on wine.
In the past the Pirates of the Caribbean star has expressed an enthusiasm for Château Petrus, Cheval Blanc and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
Depp also spent $18m on a 150-foot yacht, and millions to fly on private jets and cultivate collections of fine art and Hollywood memorabilia, the lawsuit said.
“Depp, and Depp alone, is fully responsible for any financial turmoil he finds himself in today,” the lawsuit stated.
Depp originally sought more than $25m from The Management Group – a sum he said had been mismanaged by the company. He also alleged that the company failed to file his taxes on time, costing him $5.7m in penalties – an accusation the company denies.
